Summary for Kids

Mary and Joseph named their baby Jesus, then brought him to the Jerusalem Temple with the modest two-bird offering the law allowed. Simeon had waited for God’s promise. With Mary and Joseph’s permission, he carefully held Jesus and praised God because he had seen salvation—light for the nations and glory for Israel. Simeon also told Mary that Jesus would show what was in people’s hearts, so the joyful moment carried a warning too. Anna, an elderly prophet who had stayed faithful through loss, thanked God and shared hope with others. Then Mary and Joseph continued the everyday work of caring for Jesus.
