THE STORY IN A FEW WORDS
Summary for Kids
Joseph learned that Mary was expecting a child. He did not understand everything, but he chose a kind response and did not want to expose her to public shame. In a dream, a messenger told Joseph not to be afraid to take Mary as his wife and to name the child Jesus. Joseph woke and obeyed. In the Judean hills, Elizabeth’s son was named John. Zechariah wrote, “His name is John,” and his speech returned. He praised God for mercy, light, and peace. John would help people get ready to recognize Jesus. This story does not show Jesus’ birth; it shows two families making room for God’s promise.
